Growing up Catholic I was given a lot of religious memorabilia. There were several religious services that I took place in such as reconciliation, first communion, and confirmation to name a few. Also, the fact that I went to a Catholic school seemed to make it ok to give me a rosary or Jesus statue for a birthday or Christmas gift. Just what every little girl dreams of getting for Christmas, Jesus half naked and nailed to a cross. I wouldn’t say that I'm not religious anymore. I'd call myself a Chri-easter. I go to mass on Christmas and Easter and occasionally the day my dad died. So the need for multiple crucifixes and other religious figurines is not really needed in my life.
Since moving back to the B-town house, I've been digging around in the basement trying to clean that bad boy out so one day we can sell the house. I stumbled upon what I'd like to call my youth in a box. This started my dilemma. The Y in a B is filled with random items dating back to 1st grade, and is full of random crosses, rosaries and other random religious figurines. What do I do with it? I can't throw it away. That is a one way ticket to hell if I've ever heard of one. I don’t want to donate it, I have a feeling that a Jesus status holding the Eucharist is not high priority for Good Will shoppers. Is there a place to take your old religious figurines? I know that with old American Flags you can just take them to any American Legion post and they will get rid of them the patriotic way. Is there some convent that will take in my Mother Mary plaque and get rid of it the holy way?
For now the box is going to go back into the corner of the basement cause I just don’t have the heart to kick Jesus to the curb.
