I am on a spring/summer softball league . I am pretty curious to see how it goes since it has been years since I have played last. One of the girls from work is organizing it. She asked me today for a name and here is what I came up with, The Flying Battresses. Get it? I am mocking the term Flying Buttress. Just so you know, I have tears streaming, no pouring down my face right now from laughing so hard at it. Then I find out the team is full of architects. How freaking perfect. What makes it better is that I found this image of a group of students putting themselves into a Flying Buttress formation. It's hilarious and it might be going on our team shirt.
Flying Battresses, you can't beat that.
Just an FYI for you non nerds, here is a tidbit about the flying buttress. A flying buttress is a projecting masonry structure built on the outside of a cathedral to receive the gravitational thrust of the roof. Buttresses were used to support church walls externally, creating a space inside for impressive atriums filled with shimmering stained glass windows.Instead of using big bulky stone blocks to support the ceiling of a church, these flying buttresses support the church from the outside.
