Clearly I spoke to soon. As it turns out, the issues that were facing the PAI trip were not cleared up, and it is officially off/postponed.
Damn it.
The original issue was that of the 50 mayors coming, only 2 had visas. Not the brightest down south, but we will let them be. 38 of them applied last week. Calls were made to rush the approval of the visas, but then an issue came up today. Of the 38, 36 were denied visas.
Thank you US government.
Would you like to know why they were denied? I'll share my knowledge with you. They were denied because the US government thought that once the mayors got here, they would run and stay here. So I ask you, US government, if you were a mayor of city and were going on a trip to try and better your governing skills, would you, once at training country, leave your job to become an illegal and have to work cleaning bathrooms? See, it makes no sense to me. These people wanted to come because they want to learn from good teachers aka the US. They don't want to escape their lives back home. Most of them probably lead really good lives. Why toss it all away to be a janitor or any other not so glam job that the people of the US rely on illegals to do? Does any of this make sense in your little visa denying heads?
I am not a happy skillet about this one. Boo I say to you. Boo.
At least now I won't miss the Air Supply concert or have to cancel my trip to Chicago. So I guess that makes up for some of it.
The good news kept coming when I heard the budget for my research project. I have 460 dollars to conduct a full-blown primary research task.. This includes, telephone surveys with 10 cities across the US, 3-4 focus groups of 10-12 people, plus interception surveys at local hot spots of our naming here in town. I don't even have enough to compensate 1 focus group. And if you don't compensate, the people won't come. You think that people will come just on the notion of doing a good deed for college students? I didn't think so either. Damn the greedy bastards. I have a few ideas of how to work with my tiny budget. 2 really good ones, but still no dice when it comes to how I am going to conduct 1200 phones surveys in a week.
Did I also mention that I am sick? I just went to Walgreens with the sole intention of buying Thera-Flu. It was supposed to be a quick trip. 60 bucks, rubber cement, Thera-Flu, new shampoo, a folder, ice cream, and some multi-vitamins later I leave. I hate you Walgreens. You feed on the weak. This is why everything should deliver. Especially Bread Co.
Right, off to chug some Thera-Flu and hit the comfy bed I call my own.
