That melon is for display purposes only

This weekend I went to:

One of the most famous sites in this fair city is this statue.  It is called Mannkinn Piss and it represents a boy who apparently pissed out the fuse of a lit bomb and saved the city.

Another one of Brussels interesting sites is the Atomium.  Built in 1958, it was only to last a year as part of the World fair, this landmark becamed loved by the citizens.

It also can look like this if you stand to the side of it and look up.

This is part of it that is down for cleaning.  All I can say is Flight of the Navigator anyone?

You'll never guess what the only food we consumed in Beligum was.  That's right, it's waffle time.

And more waffles . . .

Waffles go good with one of Belgiums 300 locally made beers

You's a hoe, HOE.  You's a hoe, HOE.  You's a hoe, HOE.  I said that you's a Hoegaarden

After several beers and waffles a nap was needed.  We woke found this lovely masive church in the middle of the road.

Saturday night we ended up sitting in the Grand Place surrounded by some rather lovely buildings.

And of course, waffles were had and enjoyed by all.

Sunday we woke and trained it to Bruges.  It is called the Venice of the north, but I am not feeling it.  It did however feel very Nazi to me.  A little to clean and cozy.  Something strange has to be going on there.

The Markt in Bruges

Once back in Brussels it was time for more, you guessed it, waffles.

While John tries to recover from what he swears is the best thing he has ever eaten . . .

I take pictures of one of my brillant buys. . .

And the plaza that we rode in on.

Questions? Comments? Concerns?

Aw, damn you so very much. Belgium is my favorite. I once wrote a series of letters to the Belgian embassy in Washington pleading with them to send me free crap, and they happily complied. I told them I was a geography teacher and that I was having my students do a project on planning a trip to Flanders. I still have several large travel brochures from 1996 if you would like to peruse them.

Also, that Olsen twins marathon was a bust. Only played their older flicks. I got beligerantly drunk instead of watching it. It's what I do.

If you are lucky, I will bring home some of the chocolate that I bought. If you are not lucky, you might be able to find bits of it in the bottom of my bag.

Does that not look like something from Flight of the Navigator? I asked John that question and he was all, 'what is Flight of the Navigator?' I almost gave him silent treatment for not knowing, but I didn't, obviously. I was waiting for strange little animal things to come out and greet me. Sadly, they did not show.
