Ode to the Gummy Worm

I should really be reading right now. I have so much work due, yet such little motivation. School is coming to a close and with it brings 2 finals, 1 promotional project and 2 analysis papers. I guess it could be worse, but right now, it's looking pretty rough.

I still have no idea what my internship will be this summer. I also don't know what my host family situation is looking like. The world of the unknown scares me. Considering that I have absolutely no control in this situation, I will say that it has taught me the valuable lesson of patience. It is still a work in progress, but I would like to think that I am rapidly advancing. It is so hard to just sit back and not do anything. I can sit back and wait for things to come that I know of, but to sit back and know that I am going to London in 20 days yet not know the details, is very hard.

Tomorrow is NBS's, (Nazi Bride Sarah - my older sister) wedding shower. As a human being I think that I am disgusted with her right now. As a sister, I am forced to love her. She actually confessed to me that she is only excited about getting presents. She said to my face that she doesn't care about the wedding or the reception, just the presents. I wanted to then ask why she is spending $33,000 on something that she doesn't care about, but stopped myself because she is not worth my time.

She can be quite the bitch. I sometimes wonder if she is the UPS man's daughter. Clearly if you knew any of my other siblings, you would be wondering this same thing. She was obviously more influenced by my mothers side of the family. They are the superficial side. While they do have some good people on that side, I prefer my dad's side. It is good old fashion hoosier love on that side. I enjoy it.

I normally don't care about birthdays, but this year besides August 14th being my birthday it also signals the end of NBS's wedding. Clearly celebration is in order.

I am just going to keep typing till work study ends. Feel free to stop reading at any time. I promise you won't offend me.

I saw the coolest thing on Thursday. My print production class took a field trip to a digital printer. It was amazing. The traditional way of printing involves making up plates for all the different pages. So if you were doing a 20 page brochure you needed 20 plates. If you have 4 color process, CMYK, on all 20 pages you needed 80 plates, one plate per color - I think, either way you were looking at a minimum of 20 plates. With the digital printer you don't need any plates. Here is how it works. Warning: You are about to be amazed by technology. Basically it uses electronic files that are transmitted to the plate by laser. The plate is set up so it looks like a drum scanner - It is a circle that spins around. Each time the plate goes around it is wiped clean and then a new image can be added to it. The whole process of cleaning the plate as it goes around involves voltage. I have enclosed the link to the HP website so you can watch the demo if you so choose. Basically it means that you can get up to 7 color process materials printed in a 3 day turn around time. It also means that if you only need 30 copies, you can just get 30 copies. Since you don't have to waste the time and money creating a plate, smaller jobs can get the high quality work that is needed at times. They can also customize each piece of the project. Say you are doing a direct mailer, they will add a data document to the art file and each time something is printed out the data will change and it will be customize to that specific target audience or person. Call me a sucker, but they really did hook me. I am convinced that this is the coolest thing since Black Cherry Kool Aid -
